Part V : Preserve the planet
Hello all. Another day, another article written
And here is the fifth in the “Eight Days to Peace” series…
Preserve the planet
Our planet has been here for 3.7 billion years. It has gone through severe periods of life, and of death, but the most important thing is, its still ALIVE! But, we cannot now save our planet. Because we cannot destroy it either… We can only save, or destroy, mankind from the surface of this earth!Yes ladies and gentlemen, its high time that we realised our errors and sins. We have been taking too much for granted. Of course, life will find a way. The earth will survive, but will mankind? If we go on irritating nature, and living lavishly, pruning nature for our material comforts, trust me, we won’t be around for long…
When I tell you to preserve the planet, its for your benefit and mine. Love, adore, admire, respect, and abide by, the planet. Make it a better place to live in for you, and for me, and the entire human race.
You can make a difference! I dont have to tell you HOW to preserve our planet, ‘coz I’m pretty sure that you DO know how… So bring out the real human being in you, and bring about peace, even between the planet and yourself…
Thank you dear reader, for taking pains to read till the very end. Now I hope that you will take an initiative in preserving our planet. Perfect harmony between nature, and us, is the first step required, before establishing harmony between ourselves… Au revior for now… Keep reading the series…
PART IV : Listen… And understand…
Hello again all,
Here’s part four of the “Eight Days to Peace” series. Our focus today is “Listen, and Understand”. But to my utter dismay, I see that not many comments have penetrated through to this eight day series. Please express your views, and make this series a success.

Listen… And Understand…
In our life, speaking out contributes a lot. But imagine theres no one to listen to you… Lets talk in terms of your website. You have a very splashy website. But no readers to read it! How would you feel?Thats exactly how a speaker feels, when there are no listeners. I know your next question… I hear it coming… You’re going to ask “Is that MY fault???” Here’s your answer : “YES!”
If you dont have anyone to listen to you, it means that you dont listen to anyone either! Take my advice, and trust me, it will make a difference. Listen to what others have to say.Listen to others’ opinion. Understand what they are trying to convey. Give appropriate comments to their statements. This way, you can promote global understanding. And meanwhile, you will be chalking up scores on your self-respect card, getting more people respecting you, and in the process, listening to you. Thus its a win-win-win situation. A win situation for you, since you have your listeners. A win situation for your listeners, as your opinions might strike up a revolution. And a win situation for the world as such, since it promotes Global understanding, resulting in lesser fights or battles, and in more companionships and love.
I hope that you have understood what I tried to convey. In a nutshell, listen to what others have to say. It promotes love, affection, companionship and better understanding, and thus, world peace…
Thank you once again, dear reader, and please do keep this message in mind. Comments requested please
. Once again, Au Revior, until the morrow…

Part III : Share With Others
Hey all,
Welcome back to another episode of the “Eight Days to Peace” series. And today’s topic of discussion… Sharing…
Share With Others
Sharing is an act of extreme goodwill. Sharing something, which might range from a particularly delecious dish in your lunch, to a much kept secret, not only makes you feel good, but also makes the person at the receiving end feel good too!![]()
Sharing is always a reason for happiness. Sharing something with someone, makes you eligible for a share by that someone of something.
Sharing promotes goodwill, and also gives you a breather. For example, sharing a few worrying thoughts with the closest of your friends will, without doubt, give you a quiet relief from all those worries.
Like I said earlier, sharing can range from something as simple as sharing a meal, to something as serious as sharing a secret.
You will not feel, or know, the warmth of a shared lunch, unless you experience it yourself. Share whatever you have with your friends, and those who are in need of it. Share, share, share, promote universal goodwill, and bring peace to this earth!
Until next time, toodle!
Part II : Reject Violence
Hello Again all,
This is the second part of the “Eight Days to Peace” series. And todays focus : Reject Violence.
Reject Violence
An aim of Blog For Peace. The Rejection of all violence. Peace, is truly peace, violence does not exist, non-violence is invocated and when any sign of violence is buried for good! Thus rejection of violence also plays a role in world peace.
What can you do? Well, just reject violence
For example, when George Bush waged war against Iraq, ever thought of sending a letter to Bush enlightening him? Ever thought of writing articles for the newspaper or local magazine about how peace would have been better?
Its by that kind of an action by which you can reject violence on a global scale. Theres little you can do in the form of action as a sole person. But you can make more people aware of this! And unity is strenght! On a local scale, why dont you try to stop a quarrel or an unnecessary fight between your friends or reatives? Thus, you can help on a person level too!
I hope that all of you have got the message : Stop and Reject all violence on a local, or global scale! Lets make this earth of ours a peaceful and beautiful one! Keep reading this 8 day series
Eight Days to Peace!
Hello all,
Firstly let me apologise yet again for a big gap between the two articles, which I attribute to my internet provider
Secondly, Im flagging off a eight day series. Each day, an article will be posted, about a Peace key. And in these eight days, I urge you to read and understand the meaning of each article, so that we can proceed to further, and more active movements. Here, I give you the first of the eight to come…
Respect All Life
Universal Brotherhood is the key to absolute peace, and abduction of all violence. Peace is not just the absense of war, but it is a fusion of non-violence, love and brotherly understanding between all people. And how can these be brought about? Respect. And Love. Respect all around you. Respect people for what they are, rather than criticizing people for what they are not! Respect people for their good points, giving a blind eye to their bad ones.
And love. Love is another keyword for peace. Love with all your heart. Love your friends, your kin and your foes. Hate not anyone, none even those who hate thee.
These are the two phrases you should keep in mind for the years to come, and our objective too, Respect all Life, after all, it is divine! Thank you for reading through these, and I hope that you will keep these in mind, and practice them too. So long, until the next keyword, which I will be posting tomorrow or the day after! Au Revoir for now…

The deadly enemy : Mesothelioma
Hello all,
This times heathcare issue is about a deadly disease, named Mesothelioma or asbetosis.
Mesothelioma is an uncommon form of cancer, usually associated with previous exposure to asbestos. In this disease, malignant (cancerous) cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body’s internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart).

Mesothelioma is one of the deadliest diseases known to man; the average life span of an inflicted person from the time of diagnosis until death is less than 24 months. It’s a disease that strikes approximately 3,000 United States citizens each and every year; hard working people who have labored for a lifetime to provide for their families, doing the work that keeps this country running and a great place to live. They worked in factories, at shipyards, in mines, for the US military, as engineers, as pipefitters, as steel workers, as auto mechanics, and in so many other professions. They came home to their loved ones exhausted and covered in dirt and dust; tired, but content that they had a job and were providing for their family. Content that they were putting food on the table and a house over their loved one’s heads. Content that they were working to make a better life for their families in this generation and the next…
But what they didn’t know was that while they were working so hard, they were not only slowly killing themselves, but those that they were working so hard to help; their family, their loved ones.
Mesothelioma is a disease that is almost 100% preventable; the only known cause is via exposure to the deadly mineral Asbestos. It comes from inhaling the particles of dust as the asbestos degrades; eating away at the lining of your lungs and developing into a deadly cancer. Dust that was inhaled in clouds of white powder, dust that was carried home on the clothes of the men who built this country, dust that was cleaned from the clothes by the wives and children who supported their sole provider at home, dust that was packed around the heating systems in houses and offices and schools, dust that carried a deadly price; and dust made a fortune in blood money for the companies that produced it.
Signs and symptoms

Symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until 30 to 50 years after exposure to asbestos. Shortness of breath and pain in the chest due to an accumulation of fluid in the pleural space are often symptoms of pleural mesothelioma.
Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma include weight loss and cachexia, abdominal swelling and pain due to ascites (a buildup of fluid in the abdominal cavity). Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma may include bowel obstruction, blood clotting abnormalities, anemia, and fever. If the cancer has spread beyond the mesothelium to other parts of the body, symptoms may include pain, trouble swallowing, or swelling of the neck or face.
These symptoms may be caused by mesothelioma or by other, less serious conditions.
Diagnosis
Diagnosing mesothelioma is often difficult, because the symptoms are similar to those of a number of other conditions. Diagnosis begins with a review of the patient’s medical history. A history of occupational exposure to asbestos may increase clinical suspicion for mesothelioma. A physical examination is performed, followed by chest X-ray and often lung function tests. The X-ray may reveal pleural thickening commonly seen after asbestos exposure and increases suspicion of mesothelioma. A CT (or CAT) scan or an MRI is usually performed. If a large amount of fluid is present, abnormal cells may be detected by cytology if this fluid is aspirated with a syringe. For pleural fluid this is done by a pleural tap or chest drain, in ascites with an paracentesis or ascitic drain and in a pericardial effusion with pericardiocentesis. While absence of malignant cells on cytology does not completely exclude mesothelioma, it makes it much more unlikely, especially if an alternative diagnosis can be made (e.g. tuberculosis, heart failure).
If cytology is positive or a plaque is regarded as suspicious, a biopsy is needed to confirm a diagnosis of mesothelioma. A doctor removes a sample of tissue for examination under a microscope by a histopathologist. A biopsy may be done in different ways, depending on where the abnormal area is located. If the cancer is in the chest, the doctor may perform a thoracoscopy. In this procedure, the doctor makes a small cut through the chest wall and puts a thin, lighted tube called a thoracoscope into the chest between two ribs. Thoracoscopy allows the doctor to look inside the chest and obtain tissue samples.

If the cancer is in the abdomen, the doctor may perform a laparoscopy. To obtain tissue for examination, the doctor makes a small opening in the abdomen and inserts a special instrument into the abdominal cavity. If these procedures do not yield enough tissue, more extensive diagnostic surgery may be necessary.
Mesothelioma can be thus diagnised.
Treatment
Treatment of Mesothelioma using conventional therapies has not proved successful and patients have a median survival time of 6 - 12 months after presentation. The clinical behaviour of the malignancy is affected by several factors including the continuous mesothelial surface of the pleural cavity which favours local metastasis via exfoliated cells, invasion to underlying tissue and other organs within the pleural cavity, and the extremely long latency period between asbestos exposure and development of the disease.

1.Surgery
Surgery, either by itself or used in combination with pre- and post-operative adjuvant therapies has proved disappointing with a 5 year survival rate of less than 10%. It is most useful for palliation. Not a very good choice of treatment for mesothelioma.
2.Radiation
Although the tumour is highly resistant to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, these regimens are sometimes used to relieve symptoms arising from tumour metastases such as obstruction of a major blood vessel(viz. symptoms of mesothelioma)
3.Immunotherapy
Treatment regimens involving immunotherapy have yielded variable results. Ttrials involving interferon alpha have proved more encouraging with 20% of patients experiencing a greater than 50% reduction in tumour mass combined with minimal side effects.
4.Heated Intraoperative Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy
A procedure known as heated intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy was developed by Paul Sugarbaker at the Washington Cancer Institute[5]. This technique permits the administration of high concentrations of selected drugs into the abdominal and pelvic surfaces. Heating the chemotherapy treatment increases the penetration of the drugs into tissues. Also, heating itself damages the malignant cells more than the normal cells.

The bane of Private Jets
Hello all.
Whats the worst form of an environmentalist? A private jet environmental debater! Oh yes, some of those wealthy healthy environmentalists have private jets, like Gulfstream, which emits so much gaseous waste into the atmosphere. They go on debating about pollution, but they seem oblivious to the fact that their own private jets are currently polluting a lot!

A private jet produces almost the same amount of pollution, if not more, that of a ordinary coach airplane. But the coach airplane carries almost 200-300 passengers, while these “Private Jets” carry, at a time, only 5 to 6 passengers. Thus the pollution per person increases.
And still, we have about 10,000 of them around, these private jets! And most of them donate generously to environmental issues. Why dont they realise that they can create a role model by boycotting private jets?
These private jets are the bane of environmentalists! Lets create awareness, send this article to all your friends, or refer them to Blog For Peace. Boycott the private jets!
Games for Peace
In encouraging steps forward, game developers are developing peace and non-violence related games.
Mike Musgrove, Staff Writer, recently reported in a Washington Post article
on an encouraging new trend in Internet-based computer games. The
games, usually focused on fantasy world quests, are now starting to
address serious social issues as hunger, Mideast peace, and genocide. For example the popular U.N. video game Food Force [http://www.food-force.com]
is based on a major food crisis in the fictitious island of Sheylan in
the Indian Ocean. The game’s object to step up the World Food
Programme’s presence there and feed millions of hungry people. The game
has been downloaded 2 million times since its launch in the spring.
Yahoo had to step in as a Web host for the game when swarms of Internet
users converged on and accidentally knocked it off-line.
A team at Carnegie Mellon University is working on an educational
computer game called PeaceMaker — you win by negotiating peace between
Israelis and Palestinians. Carnegie Mellon’s project is led by an
Israeli citizen named Asi Burak, who has sought input from both sides
of the conflict for the game his team is building. “We want to prove
that video games can be serious and deal with meaningful issues,” said
Burak, who will be lecturing about it at the Serious Games conference
in Washington next month, a get-together dedicated to introducing game
designers to potential clients interested in educational games.
In a similar vein, MTV has announced a $50,000 student contest [see their website]
to come up with a video game that fights genocide in Darfur, Sudan.
According to Stephen Friedman, general manager of an MTV channel shown
on college campuses, “Activism needs to be rethought and reinvented
with each generation,” he said. “This is a generation that lives online
– what better way to have an effect?”
Thus even games are being put forward, for peace. We fully support this motion, and if ANY game developer, developing a peace game, wants a link from this site, simply reply to this post
We can hope, that in future, such games will be developed for Playstation 2 as well. Adios for now

The curses of Epilepsy…
Hello all,
Today, we are featuring an article for our General Healthcare category. You can expect ONE health related post from now onwards every week. And today’s feature - Epilepsy&Seizure.
So says www.epilepsy.com :
Epilepsy is a neurological condition, which affects the nervous system. Epilepsy is also known as a seizure disorder. It is usually diagnosed after a person has had at least two seizures that were not caused by some known medical condition like alcohol withdrawal or extremely low blood sugar.
The seizures in epilepsy may be related to a brain injury or a family tendency, but most of the time the cause is unknown. The word "epilepsy" does not indicate anything about the cause of the person’s seizures, what type they are, or how severe they are.
How do you know when you have a seizure?
- Deja vu
- Jamais vu
- Smell
- Sound
- Taste
- Visual loss or blurring
- Racing thoughts
- Stomach feelings
- Strange feelings
- Tingling feeling
- Fear/Panic
- Pleasant feeling
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Lightheadedness
- Nausea
- Numbness
For treatment, I advise you visit a qualified medical practitioner. But before that, you need to read this:
Facts and Myths about Epilepsy
- People with epilepsy are not "epileptics."
- A seizure disorder is epilepsy.
- People with epilepsy are seldom brain-damaged.
- People with epilepsy usually are not mentally handicapped.
- People with epilepsy are not violent or crazy.
- Seizures do not cause brain damage.
- Epilepsy is not necessarily inherited.
- Epilepsy is not a life-long disorder.
- Epilepsy is not a curse.
- Epilepsy should not be a barrier to success.
Well, hope that this has been helpful. Comments/Suggestions are welcome… Thank you for your patience…
Bye for now

Poem : Peace - A Chance
Hi all,
A few days ago, I had scribbled down a peace poem. Hope you enjoy it…

Peace - A chanceIn this, peaceful paradigm,
A question, unanswered,
A solution at dim,
Thirsty blokes, war it led. Why, we unfortunate falcons,
Swirling, through the winds of change,
Art unknown to peaceful fawns,
Dreadful war, I take back my gage! Why not thee give Peace, a chance,
Save our world, take down the gong,
Throw down, in mud, the rusted lance,
Look forward and hope, for a brighter dawn. And in this new realm of Peace,
Rejoice we shall, in unbound joy;
Enjoy the world, one with no tease
Happy art I, we are no toy!
How was that folks? Hope you understood the deeper meaning. Feel free to post your interpretations here!
Aloha till we see next time…
