So back to the topic in hand… I joined a new community called AugustFury. Quite a few cool members out there, with a varsity of ideas… I happened to read across a small discussion named “Gender Discrimination” and I thought I would share a few of the views mentioned with you guys, and a few views of my own
Thus said a member named Sonika :
Gender Discrimination:
According to wikipedia, Gender discrimination is any action that grants
or denies opportunities, privileges, or rewards to a person just on the
basis of their sex.So is it against woman only, no it’s not.. When we tell a boy not to play with a doll, aren’t we discriminating? Yes, we are.
So, why is it that we woman keep raising hell over it?
After all things are so much better what they were in past.
We are not burned on pyres anymore. Atleast not all of us. Of course
the relative small percentage does get burned for dowry but that’s ok.
So many men also die in accidents everyday. Nobody starts a discussion
on that.
Unborn babies are killed because they happen to have wrong sex.. So that’s a way to control population..Don’ we see discrimination everywhere around us(yes, even in urban areas)
If a girl is driving, she has to be a bad one..
Brains and beauty don’t go together..
If in work place a girl raises some issue, then it’s because being a female she’s over-reacting.
And most importantly why is it that when a guy helps out at home,
he’s a gem; but a female who does this 24X7 is just doing wt she’s
supposed to?The worst that I’ve seen around happens in low-income families –
Not enough money, girl quits school first. Need a baby-sitter, girl
quits school.
Her educational talent is never in picture. It’s just another
useless trait she’s born with or worked hard for. After all that won’t
help her in getting married. And then we have nerves to say it’s a hyped thing.
Yes, I agree we don’t need reservations in bus or in parliament. But if it does help someone what’s the harm.
We saw female ‘sarpanch’ for first time because of these kind of
demands.. We saw woman coming forward in fields kept exclusively for
men including armed services.Discrimination is everywhere, only extent differs.. But ignoring it or valid issues emerging from this is wrong.
Yes, lots of times laws are used against innocent men. But for that
we don’t need to condemn feminism or females or reservation for
females. All we need is better judicial system.Everything changes with time but its us who decides this rate of change.
Maybe some of us are ready to wait another 50 years to see gender
equality and maybe some of us want so in another 10 years… Hence the
proposed reservations for women.Made a pretty long post..
Well on end note.. Just one thing whether you are against
reservations for women or for it, Just don’t ignore the discrimination
around you. Maybe you can help in bringing awareness.. then we won’t
need any reservations at all.
Not bad… A good view, giving value from both angles…
And here’s my view

And no offences to either the male or female sex…
Gender DISCRIMINATION is a big no-no.
But gender SPECIFIC rights and rules is a must.
i.e. God created women to be physically and mentally un-superior(no, not inferior, just unsuperior).
Women(except exceptions) are physically less stronger than men. Also, women lack a few million neurons, compared to men. And this might
explain why women are influenced by emotional thoughts, rather than
their brains. In other words, in emotional, or in emergent situations,
women are ruled by their hearts, not by their brains.
Thus, the male sex can easily dominate over the female sex, thereby calling for special laws for the protection of women…
But of course, women’s lib is absolute BULLSHIT, and those women who call males “male chauvinists” should be hanged to death
Hmmmm… Interesting? Do post your comments on this view
Cheerio

The relegion war continues… The RESERVATION struggle
Hello all,
Today, I write this with a heavy heart. Inspite of the numerous peace organizations and movements in India, a war is raging across this peaceful nation! Something very close to a civil war…
And the reason? Relegious reservations…

The HRD Ministry of India brought about a new law. A law that compulsified at reservation of 50% seats, in the premier educational institutes, for students belonging to lower castes. First thing is that, I HATE casteism! Casteism was fine, five thousand years ago. It was then, that it had meaning. Castes were introduced then, for the harmonical functioning of the society. But then, casteism was not based on relegion. It was based on occupation.
Now the situation has been reversed. There is now a high, and low caste, which never existed thousands of years ago. And the HRD Ministry, had now brought about a law, increasing the reservation of seats to 50%!
According to the census, in India, 30% of the population belongs to the “lower castes.” And why 50% reservation? The HRD Ministry is putting up lame excuses. So are supporters of the bill. But the big problem now is, the bill was passed in January, and the Government has to do something to pacify the protestors against this bill.
Yep. The protestors. The premier colleges list included the most prestigious IITs (graded to give better education than MIT) , IIMs (the most wanted management institutes), AIIMS(the best doctors in India produced here), JNU(foreign studies, language studies etc) and all other national colleges.

The students of these colleges have started a protest. It was peaceful at first. But now, it has turned bloody violent, with the Police using tear gas, water canons and the works…
The struggle continues all over India, in all its Metro cities, and states. Meanwhile, the HRD Ministry is refusing to comment, though all know that its just dirty politics.
If you want a to-the-date document on the issue, to catch up on what its all about, and the slimy facts, visit http://witnesstimes.blogspot.com/2006/05/reservations-riot-wt-exclusive.html , and also download this document : http://www.blogforpeace.org/PERSONAL/reservations.doc
I said all this, since I wanted you to be aware of a situation where such drastic actions were needed. As of now, Blog For Peace is in support of the protesting Medical Students, and the Indian Medical Association, who took the innitiatives in the protest. Post your opinions here…
And stay tuned to Blog For Peace, for more on the issue… As the battle continues…

Mothers day
Hello all,
So, everyone’s out there preparing for Mother’s day, which is to happen on the 14th of this month… Thus, I thought that I could publish an article on the significance of Mother’s Day. Meanwhile, a community I’m part of, called BlogMad, is giving away freebies to anyone who cares to introduce themselves on their blog, and put in the keyword “BlogMadMom”.
So here’s my personal details
Im Mohan K. , better known around the net as my alias and writing name, Neo Garfield. I’m a 12th Grade student, from India. One day, I had this strong urge to do something for this world of ours, and thus I started this blog
My mom is a doctor, my dad was a manager, who is now enjoying his retired life
And I have this very annoying(but loving) elder sister, who is thankfully right now in Australia
Oh, and if you’re a guy from BlogMad, my username is neogarfield .
So back to the significance of .. uh… oh yeah, Mother’s Day
This occassion was started by a gal named Julia Ward Howe. She wrote a poem, in 1870, and called it the Mother’s Day Proclamation. It was a plea for peace, and disarmament (but don’t ask me where the war was). It goes as follows -
From the voice of a devastated Earth a voice goes up with
Our own. It says: “Disarm! Disarm!
The sword of murder is not the balance of justice.”
Blood does not wipe our dishonor,
Nor violence indicate possession.
As men have often forsaken the plough and the anvil at the summons of war,
Let women now leave all that may be left of home
For a great and earnest day of counsel.
Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.
Let them solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means
Whereby the great human family can live in peace…Yep. Thats it
. However, she failed in her attempt to get formal recognition of a Mother’s Day for Peace. Her idea was influenced by Anna Jarvis, a young Appalachian homemaker who, starting in 1858, had attempted to improve sanitation through what she called Mothers’ Work Days. She organized women throughout the Civil War to work for better sanitary conditions for both sides, and in 1868 she began work to reconcile Union and Confederate neighbours.
Jarvis’ daughter, also named Anna Jarvis, would, of course, have known of her mother’s work, and the work of Howe. Much later, when her mother died, this second Anna Jarvis started her own crusade to found a memorial day for women. The first such Mother’s Day was celebrated in Grafton, West Virginia, on May 10, 1908, in the church where the elder Anna Jarvis had taught Sunday School. Grafton is the home to the International Mother’s Day Shrine. From there, the custom caught on — spreading eventually to 45 states.
The holiday was declared officially by somes states beginning in 1912. In 1914 President Woodrow Wilson declared the first national Mother’s Day. Nine years after the first official Mother’s Day holiday, commercialization of the U.S. holiday became so rampant that Anna Jarvis herself became a major opponent of what the holiday had become. Mother’s Day continues to this day to be one of the most commercially successful U.S. holidays.
Mother’s Day is a busy time of year for mail in many countries. In 1973, the U.S. Postal Service was held up for eight days because of the number of letters and cards. Telephone networks are also at their busiest on Mother’s Day.
On Mother’s Day, we appreciate our mothers, by sending cards, gifts, teddy bears, the works
So those reading this from USA, please don’t forget to wish your mother a happy mother’s day on the 14th

That’s the message I wanted to convey. I hope that when you finish reading this article, you are more literate about Mother’s Day, than before. SOOOOO go ahead, and enjoy Mother’s Day! And don’t forget to drop in a comment on how you celebrated the day

Sibling Rivalry - trivial? Or not?
Hello all,
Today, I’m back with a new topic, Sibling Rivalry. This topic struck my mind because of a ongoing issue in India… Read on…

Sibling Rivalry
By “sibling rivalry”
we mean the antagonism or hostility between brothers and/or sisters which
manifests itself in circumstances such as in the common children’s family
fights (which begin with a pulling of the sibling’s hair or with the unwillingness
to share a prized toy, and which try the patience of parents all over the
world) to much more serious cases such as the permanent enmity between
adult siblings, or Biblical case of the murder
of Abel by Cain.
It might start as a casual pillow fight between a brother and his little sister… Maybe a water fight between brothers… But sometimes, it goes way beyond! For example, take the condition of Mr. Pramod Mahajan.
This is the issue I mentioned earlier. Pramod was a senior party leader in India, but last week, his brother Pravin Mahajan, shot three rounds of bullets through him! Nothing, but sibling rivalry! Pravin was jealous and annoyed by Pramod’s superior position! Now Pramod is in a super speciality hospital, being treated by doctors from all over the world. The bullets penetrated his liver, small intenstine, and his pancreas.
With little hope for recovery, his friends and family members are encased by sorrow and rage. “Conditions deteriorating,” Said the doctor yesterday!
Thus is the heights of sibling rivalry! Sibling Rivalry in the younger ages is tolerable… But it should be controlled as the children grow up. The other family members should find way and methods in which it can be controlled, and finally trashed.

Well, thats it from Sibling Rivalry
Al vida for now
