Absurdity vs Absurdity - who is absurd and who is not??
Hi again all…
TechCrunch takes on PayPerPost again! I wonder what TechCrunch has, against paid blogging!
Well, PPP had released DisclosurePolicy.com today. TechCrunch thus claims this positive move to be “officially absurd”! They refer to Consumer Generated Advertizing as a virus…
Interesting how people’s minds work! As Shakespeare truly said, “to each his own…“.
But ofcourse, we PPP bloggers are using a different quote… “to kill or not to kill…“
What TechCrunch has posted, as usual, lacks the amount of points required to really convince a user. Rather, they are giving silently, methods and ways by which a user silently moves over to supporting PPP. They are hanging onto rather precarious points, like a lost stallion in a strong debate.
My opinion about DP is that its a pretty good move to ensure that bloggers stay credible. In fact, it increases trust, and popularity.
Its easy for Arrington to comment like this, when he’s paid a six figure income monthly to blog… We are bloggers who represnt the blogging community. I myself - I want to cover up my hosting charges, and the rest, it goes to charity… I dont think thats such a bad thing to be paid for. I have identified local charities, whom I pay according to the BlogForPeace website moto - “towards peace, and towards charity, ahoy!”
I have to round up my post here, as time calls, and time is money… But ladies and gentlemen, a real feast coming up, in my next post
Pip pip….

The BlogForPeace Disclosure Policy
Hey all,
In a giant announcement today, PayPerPost(PPP), announced the release of a site called Disclosure Policy. This site features a Disclosure Policy Generator, badges, boards, blog etc. which were set up to promote the idea of DISCLOSURE among bloggers. The Swastika…
Hey all,
One of my friends cum readers recently mailed me thus -
Hey,
Just like to say a nice article,
My mother was wondering about your swastika picture, according to her it is a symbol of the Nazi Germans from the 1930s n 40s,
could someone please re-assure her as I have tried and failed…
As I know, the swastika is a symbol of peace and harmony accross the world, and isn’t a symbol of hatred and violence, correct?
Thus, I decided that it was time and time enough to educate the westerners about the symbolic representation of the swastika…

The Swastika is in fact a sacred symbol which evolved in the Aryan ages. It is a symbol in Hinduism, later adopted by Buddhists and Jains (the founders of both these relegions being former Hindus). It stands, not for violence, but for evolution, peace, and universal goodwill…
Swastika is a Sanskrit word - svastika, from su “well”, and asti “being”, thus “good fortune” or “well-being”.
In Hinduism, the two symbols represent the two forms of the creator god Brahma: facing right it represents the evolution of the universe (Pravritti), facing left it represents the involution of the universe (Nivritti). It is also seen as pointing in all four directions (North, East, South and West) and thus signifies stability and groundedness. Its use as a sun symbol can first be seen in its representation of Surya, the Hindu Sun God. The swastika is considered extremely holy and auspicious by all Hindus, and is regularly used to decorate all sorts of items to do with Hindu culture. It is used in all Hindu yantras and religious designs. Throughout the subcontinent of India it can be seen on the sides of temples, written on religious scriptures, on gift items, and on letterhead. The Hindu God Ganesh is often shown as sitting on a lotus flower on a bed of swastikas.

The swastika is found all over Hindu temples, signs, altars, pictures and iconography where it is sacred. It is used in all Hindu weddings, festivals, ceremonies, houses and doorways, clothing and jewelry, motor transport and even decorations on food items like cakes and pastries.
The Om symbol is also sacred in Hinduism. While Aum is representative of a single primordial tone of creation, the Swastika is a pure geometrical mark and has no syllabic tone associated with it. The Swastika is one of the 108 symbols of Lord Vishnu and represents the sun’s rays without which there would be no life.
This symbol evolved in India, and later spread throughout the world, via Greece. The Greeks were traders, and traded with India, and thus Greeks were the second generation to use the Swastika.
Much much much much later, the symbol spread across Europe, and
Hitler used it for his Nazi regime. Today, very many people believe
that the swastika is evil because Hitler used it. This is not true.
In his autobiography, Hitler wrote -
“I myself, meanwhile, after innumerable attempts, had laid down a final
form; a flag with a red background, a white disk, and a black swastika
in the middle. After long trials I also found a definite proportion
between the size of the flag and the size of the white disk, as well as
the shape and thickness of the swastika.”

The use of the swastika was associated by Nazi theorists with their conjecture of Aryan cultural descent of the German people. Following the Nordicist version of the Aryan invasion theory, the Nazis claimed that the early Aryans of India, from whose Vedic tradition the swastika sprang, were the prototypical white invaders. It was also widely believed that the Indian caste system had originated as a means to avoid racial mixing. The concept of Racial purity was an ideology central to Nazism though it is now considered unscientific. For Rosenberg, the Aryans of India were both a model to be imitated and a warning of the dangers of the spiritual and racial “confusion” that, he believed, arose from the close proximity of races.
Now, there’s another symbol named the Sauwastika.

The name sauwastika is sometimes given for the supposedly “evil”, left-facing, form of the swastika (卍). A common belief is that the left-facing swastika is generally regarded as evil in Hindu tradition. This is because the much more common form in India is the right-facing swastika. Indians of all faiths sometimes use the symbol in both orientations - mostly for symmetry. Buddhists, outside of India, generally use the left-facing swastika over the right-facing swastika although, again, both can be used. Despite this, the misconception that the left-facing swastika is evil is widespread, even among some contemporary Indian communities.
Well, thats all I know about the Swastika… If you want more information, Google for it, or Wiki for it
Cheers, and I hope that your misconceptions have cleared up!

Tamale Confesses… She does look stressed out :)
Hey all,
Grabbed this one from the PayPerPost blog… Was a little late to catch up on it though….
PayPerPost is an organization which pays people to blog… Ofcourse, you might have guessed by now that I get paid to blog by PPP - I have to cover my hosting costs, and the rest goes to charity ![]()
So anyway, Ted, the CEO of PPP has been encouraging his team members to blow off their steam via video confessionals, ‘coz PPP, although fun, is sometimes a high stress environment… Flaming Tamale, aka Veronique, was the first to take it…
I’m embedding the video here, but before that, I would like to comment of Veronique… Veronique and I had quite a thing going… No! NOT THAT YOU PERVERT! Well its like this, I had my age mentioned here as “16″, and she thought that I was actually only 16… I told her that it was my WRITING soul which was 16, and she got all confused up about was I 16 or not… We cleared it all up now ![]()
By the way, Veronique did this confession after my mail to her… Something tells me Neo Garfield had something to do with this confession ![]()
Soooo, the video…

My debate today : Modernization is leading to the decline of moral values…
Today I participated in a debate. The topic was “Modernization
is leading to the decline of moral values…” The topic, a philosophical one, matched the theme of this blog, and I thought I would publish it here. I spoke AGAINST the motion…
P.S: I got the the best debator against the motion award
So, here is the award winning speech…
“Modernization is
leading to the decline of moral values…”Luke 12 : 57 Jesus
said, “Why do you not judge for yourself, what is right”.Resp. judges,
teachers, opponents, associates, ladies and gentlemen. A very good morning to
one and all. I stand before you, on this very fine morning, to speak against
the motion, that modernization is leading to a decline in moral values.Let me start off by
saying what are moral values. Moral values are those set of unwritten rules
which a society thinks is right. Very many people say that moral values have
declined over the years, due to modernization. The fact is, like every other
factor in nature, moral values haven’t declined, but is undergoing constant
change.
Morality based on
the Bible deals with honesty, and integrity. “Moral standards have been lost
through greed”, remarked an ex-German chancellor. The truth is, greed has been
present right from the time Judas betrayed Jesus. And this same greed is
referred to as the cause for declining moral values today. Thus we see that
greed is not a cause for decline of moral values.
In different
aspects of our day to day life, we can clearly see that moral values have not
been lost. Lets take, for example, right here – the school. Education . Means
of education has shifted from the Gurukul system to the schools we see today.
Teachers have changed from enlightened saints to knowledge based lecturers. But
we don’t see an outright decline in the standard of education. In fact, Indian
students are more competitive and knowledgeable that many other international
students. The teacher-student relationship has changed from strict enforced
beliefs to friendly, compassionate teaching, with proper understanding of a student.
This is definitely something positive leading to better quality in education,
and thereby showing off the possible increase in moral values. In terms of science
and technology, we see that modernization has lead to sustainable research,
taking into consideration the adverse effects of any invention, to mankind, and
the environment. Contrary to this, earlier on, little emphasis was given to
sustenance of mankind, or the adverse long time effects. The focus then was
mostly on economy. Thus modernization
has brought about a positive change in moral values considering technology. Also considering
the recent trends of Information Technology, and its advancements, we see that
IT focuses mainly in improving humanely comforts. Can’t you imagine the
happiness of a grandfather when he video-chats with his grandchildren, who are
abroad due to some reason? It is, therefore, another emphasis on the growing,
and not declining, rate of moral values. If compassion, and
care, are bases for morality, then yet again, moral values have not declined. We
see social work, and people volunteering to do social work, all around us. Look
at Mata Amritanandamayi! Look at Sai Baba! Look at the hundreds and thousands
of NGOs helping out the poor and needy! We see renowned people taking in
orphans, and setting an example for all childless parents to take. Yes, I’m
talking about the pop star Madonna adopting an African orphan, whose both
parents died due to AIDS! I believe, from what I see around me, that our
present world is a much more caring, and compassionate one from the world a few
decades ago!A few of my
opponents brought up the point of the increasing number of old age homes. In
fact, this is another way of showing that people care. Parents are not pushed
out of their homes and forced into old age homes like we see in films or soap
operas! There are parents out there who have lost their children, or don’t have
children, or who have children in far off places, where they’re forced to go to
support the family! For these people, old age homes are boons, and there are
people to make such old age homes! In close relation
with care, we see that Human Rights are gaining a good upper hand in our
present world. All over the world, laws are being made, and realized, for Human
Rights, and also protection of an individual. For example, look at the
Reservations! Consider the women empowerment programme. If a misdeed was done
50 years ago, a person had no other go, but to sit and cry. Today, he can
approach a court, or any other legal agency!Another point I
would like to make is about the news-media prevalent today. We see an ever
increasing rise of news sources, trying to deliver the most accurate news to
the eager people. The indication that people want to know more, is an
indication of the increase in moral values…Thus ladies and
gentlemen, I make no rash promises when I say, that moral values HAVE NOT
DECLINED due to modernization, and nor will it decline in the near future. Man
cannot survive without modernization. And ancient moral values cannot survive
without edits of modernization. Thus saying, I end my views, Thank youProperty of Neo Garfield (aka
Mohan K.Pillai) Content is strictly copyrighted and not to be used without
prior permission and credits
So? Hows it ladies and gentlemen? I hope you enjoyed it… I’ll post a few For The Motion views on the same topic soon… Meanwhile, what do you think?

Understand autism: Myths & facts
Hey all,
I saw this article at CNN IBN, and thought that it should be one which is to be read by a larger audience…

Most of us would help a blind person cross the road. But when it comes to an autistic child, people turn indifferent.
In an age where communication is the most
important of all skills, how does an autistic child cope with a
communication disorder?Tamil actor Prithvi Raj’s 11-year-old son Ahed was not allowed to board a plane in Bangalore because airport security seemed to think that his disability made him dangerous.
“Our struggle is to make my son acceptable
in the main stream society. We don’t want special privileges, don’t
make his life miserable please,” Prithvi Raj says.Autistic children like Ahed face
insensitivity and discrimination almost everyday. When an autistic
child does not make eye contact, or doesn’t return a greeting, people
think he’s either rude or indifferent.
While the truth is that autistic children find it difficult to communicate verbally or even through gestures.
“For our children, just to look, to blow,
to turn around when called. Each and everything needs to be worked
upon,” ‘We CAN’ Resource center for autism founder Hema Jairam says.A popular misconception about autism is
that it is a disability of the super intelligent and that all autistic
children have a special talent. However, therapists say that such cases
are extremely rare, and most autistic children are like regular kids
who could love music, hate math and be great athletes.
AUTISM TRAITS
Difficulty in expressing needs, using gestures or pointing instead of words.
Repeating words or phrases in place of normal, responsive language.
Laughing or crying for no apparent reason or showing distress for reasons not apparent to others.
Preference to being alone.
Little or no eye contact.
Unresponsive to normal teaching methods.
Obsessive attachment to objects.
Apparent over-sensitivity or under-sensitivity to pain.
No real fears of danger.
Noticeable physical over-activity or extreme under-activity.
Non-responsive to verbal cues, acting as if deaf, although hearing tests in normal range.
But the challenge for an autistic child
lies in overcoming his disability and making an effort to be the part
of mainstream – be it education or interaction. For them going to a regular school, or even playing in the park is not simple. It’s a big step in their learning.
Thirteen-year-old Teja, an autistic child
managed to overcome his disability by his mother’s help. He has always
gone to a regular school and is a perfect example of what the
combination of intense therapy at home and an understanding school can
achieve.Teja’s social skills improved to such an
extent that he started participating in mainstream education and social
events. Today, he plays the perfect host at his birthday parties.“I call all my friends, enjoy, eat and
give chocolates to all,” says Teja. “Do actors act in serials? I would
like to act in a serial someday,” he says.“I think everybody. Your family,
relatives, neighbours, they should all know that your child has a
disability. I mean it’s not a curse or a sin or something. Ok, a child
is born like this, so what can you do about it? All that you can do is
to help,” Teja’s mother Rekha Kumar says.Though most autistic children are
misunderstood and are often considered mysterious by a largely
insensitive society, with some care, understanding and awareness they
can overcome the complex disability.
SOURCE : http://www.ibnlive.com/news/understanding-autism-myths–facts/24508-3.html
As you might understand, autism is not a disease, its a condition. And
an autistic person should not be ignored, but should be cared for, and
treated good. I dont have to say anymore, all points have been covered
by CNN IBN blog writer
But another day, I’ll give you a few steps to
be followed to help out autistic people, especially children… Adios
for now…

Record breaking Ozone hole… Antartica gets a blazer!
Hey all,
As everyone is scared and concerned about the ozone problems, and as scientists vehemently protest that the ozone holes are healing, there emerges the biggest ozone hole in history!

This year’s Antarctic ozone hole is the biggest ever, US government scientists said on Thursday.
The so-called hole is a region where there
is severe depletion of the layer of ozone, a form of oxygen in the
upper atmosphere that protects life on Earth by blocking ultraviolet
rays from the sun.
Scientists say human-produced gases such
as bromine and chlorine damage the layer causing the hole. That is the
reason many compounds such as spray-can propellants have been banned in
recent years.
“From September 21 to 30, the average area
of the ozone hole was the largest ever observed, at 10.6 million square
miles (27.4 million square kilometers),’” said Paul Newman, atmospheric
scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
That is larger than the area of North America.
In addition satellite measurements
observed a low reading of 85 Dobson units of ozone on October 8. That
is down from a thickness of 300 Dobson units in July.
The ozone hole is considered to be the area with total column ozone below 220 Dobson Units.
A reading of 100 Dobson Units means that
if all the ozone in the air above a point were brought down to
sea-level pressure and cooled to freezing it would form a layer one
centimetre thick. A reading of 250 Dobson Units translates to a layer
about one inch (2.54 centimetres) thick.
In a critical layer of air between eight
miles (13 kilometres) and 13 miles (21 kilometres) above the surface
the measurement was only 1.2 Dobson unit, down from 125 in July.
“These numbers mean the ozone is virtually
gone in this layer of the atmosphere,” said David Hofmann, director of
the Global Monitoring Division at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration’s Earth System Research Laboratory.
“The depleted layer has an unusual
vertical extent this year, so it appears that the 2006 ozone hole will
go down as a record-setter,” Hofmann added.
The size and thickness of the ozone hole varies from year to year, becoming larger when temperatures are lower.
Because of international agreements
banning ozone-depleting substances researchers calculated that these
chemicals peaked in Antarctica in 2001 and have been declining.
