PPP Postie Patrol V2 - The PPPman returns…

Ladies and gentlemen…
    We bring you, we proudly present, THE PAYPERPOST POSTIE PATROL 2!!!

    I didnt catch the name of the Postie, but see if you can, from the video posted above :) But for all those lazy to click the button, heres a blow by blow review :)

    PPP had introduced the Postie Patrol a couple of weeks back. But this is the first time they used their Blue Monster for it :) A group of them, including Ted, Veronique, and a couple of others whom I didnt recognize, jumped out of the PPP HQ, shouting, howling etc - the works. I guess the pent up tensions got them crazy :P
    They get into the Blue Monster, hollywood style, and visits this guy, and offers him 3 challenges. Did I say that Ted was wearing a Viking hat with blonde pigtails? :P Anyway, this guy accepts the Pizza challenge with Ted. Rules of the game - 2 giant pizzas. One for postie. One for Ted. The person who finishes first wins. $400 as stakes :) Yep. Ted went for it along with this guy.

    Pretty exciting scenes where Ted tries to gobble up a lot of pizza to save his $400 :P But unfortunately, he throws up. In a hurried ceremony, he gives the postie his $400, and quietly disappears from the scene, but the camcorder guy/gal caught Ted… He went to a nearby tree, and used it with all his liesure to throw up… The poor guy :( Anyway, he promises that this will be the end of eating challenges for Postie Patrols… :D
    So thats a gist of the Patrol 2. Stay tuned for more… :) By the way, dont forget to see the video… Toodles for now :)

Saddam - capital punishment… Astalavista Saddam…

Hey all,
    Well, as you might have all known, Saddam Hussien has been sentenced to death! A verdict that I fully approve, and I hope it happens for all the crimes he has committed. I’m posting the news here :)

Saddam Hussein was sentenced on Sunday to
death by hanging for his role in a brutal crackdown nearly 25 years ago
in Dujail – the once obscure Iraqi town that is now a symbol of his
regime’s cruelty.

The court said Saddam should be hanged
within 30 days. Appeals, if any, must be filed with in 10 days, the
court ruled, before it was adjourned for the day.

Saddam shouted at the judges, saying “Down
with the court and you people. You are the enemies of humanity.” He
also abused US and “other Western forces”.

Also sentenced to death were Barzan
Hassan, Saddam Hussein’s half-brother and former head of the
intelligence agency, and Awad Bandar, the former chief judge of the
Revolutionary Court.

THE VERDICT
SADDAM HUSSEIN: Deposed Iraqi President guilty of crimes against humanity,sentenced to death by hanging.
AWAD HAMAD AL-BANDAR:
Saddam’s co-accused and head of revolutionery court that had sentenced
143 Dujail residents in the aftermath of the failed assassination
attempt on Saddam on July 8, 1982. Also sentenced to death by hanging.
BARZAN IBRAHIM EL-HASAN AL-TIKRITI: Saddam’s half-brother and former intelligence chief, also given death penalty.
TAHA YASSIN RAMADAN: Saddam’s vice-president, sentenced to life imprisonment.
ABDULLAH RUWAID: Baath Party official in Dujail region, believed responsible for Dujail arrests. Gets 15 years in jail.
MIZHER RUWAID: Son of co-defendant Abdullah Ruwaid and Baath Party official from Dujail region. Gets 15 years in jail.
ALI DAYEM ALI: Another Baath Party official from Dujail, faces 15 years in jail.
MOHAMMED AZZAWI ALI: Former Baath Party official from Dujail, acquitted for insufficient evidence.

Bandar repeatedly screamed “Allahu Akhbar” – God is great – as he was being taken out of court.

Taha Yassin Ramadan, the former vice- president of Iraq, was sentenced to life in prison.

“This is very clear, and I tell the people
today that the verdict was predetermined and has nothing to do with
court proceedings,” Ramadan said.

Three other defendants were each sentenced three to 15 years in jail, and one was acquitted.

Mohammed Azzawi Ali, a former Dujail Baath
Party official, was exonerated because, the court said, there was
insufficient evidence against him.

Indefinite curfew has been imposed and the
airport was closed in Baghdad even as celebratory gun fires were heard
in many parts of the capital city. Baghdad and two other provinces have
been put under indefinite curfew.

The verdicts come nearly three years after
US-led forces plucked Hussein out of hiding and just a few days before
US midterm elections, with the Iraqi war at center stage. The
defendants filed into the courtroom to receive their sentences from a
five-judge panel.

Defense attorney Ramsey Clark was also in
court, but he was soon ousted by judges. The court asked Clark to
leave, saying he had come here from America to mock the Iraqi people
and this court.

The tribunal met in Baghdad to render
verdicts for the co-defendants for their roles in a systematic attack
on the Shiite town of Dujail after someone tried to assassinate Hussein
during a visit on July 8, 1982.

The tribunal met amid heavy security and
sweeping curfews in Baghdad and elsewhere, as authorities brace for
violent reactions to the verdicts.

Each defendant in the trial found guilty
can appeal. The sentences of life imprisonment and death allow for an
automatic appeal. There is no limit on how long the appellate judges
have to review the case file, but the statute states that a death
sentence should be carried out within 30 days after all appeals are
exhausted.

Outbursts and Walkouts

The Dujail trial, the first in what is a
series of proceedings against former regime officials, began October
19, 2005, and ended July 27. It was a turbulent courtroom battle
witnessed on TV across the globe.

It was marked by outbursts and harangues
from Hussein and his co-defendants, lawyer walkouts, much-criticized
court actions, and complaints from lawyers about poor security. There
were grave concerns about security for legal teams and their families;
three defense lawyers were killed.

Witness testimony and prosecutors got
their case across, however. According to court documents, the military,
political and security apparatus in Iraq and Dujail killed, arrested,
detained and tortured men, women and children in the town. Homes were
demolished and orchards were razed.

The Revolutionary Court sentenced 148 males to death, with Saddam’s signature ratifying the order.

But there were other deaths as well – nine
people were killed during the destruction of orchards, and many of the
399 people who had been detained were either killed or remain missing.

Hussein, Hassan and Ramadan were charged
with willful killing, deportation or forcible transfer of population;
imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty in
violation of fundamental norms of law; torture; enforced disappearance
of persons, and other inhumane acts of a similar character
intentionally causing great suffering; or serious injury to the body or
to the mental or physical health.

Bandar was charged with willful killing by issuing the death sentences for the 148 people.

The remaining defendants are lower-level
Baath Party officials from Dujail, who were charged with informing on
Dujail residents who later died in prison or were sentenced to death.
They are Abdullah Kadhem Ruwaid, Ali Dayem Ali, Mohammed Azzawi Ali,
and Mizher Abdullah Ruwaid.

CHEQUERED PAST
bullet Saddam invaded Iran in September 1980. The disastrous war lasted eight years and claimed a million lives.
bullet
The war with Iran had crippled the Iraqi economy and Saddam was
desperate to increase his oil revenues. On August 2, 1991, his troops
invaded Kuwait, accusing the country of overproducing oil.
bullet
It proved to be a costly mistake for Saddam. On January 16, 1991, he
ignored a UN Security Council demand for Iraq’s unconditional
withdrawal and a coalition of countries, led by the United States
attacked Iraq.
bullet
At the end of the six-week Gulf War, which Saddam famously called the
mother of all battles, the Iraqis were forced out of Kuwait.
bullet
The Iraqi government collapsed within three weeks of the beginning of
the 2003 US invasion of Iraq on March 20. By April, coalition forces
occupied much of Iraq and Saddam had become US’ most wanted fugitive in
Iraq.
bullet
The resistance of the Iraqi Army had crumbled by then. When Baghdad
fell to the coalition on April 9, Saddam was still preparing to leave.
bullet
Saddam’s two sons were killed in a raid by US troops and in December
2003, US officials captured the former president near Tikrit.
bullet
Saddam was transferred to the Iraqi authorities on June 30, 2004,
following the handover of power to Prime Minister Iyad Allawi’s interim
government. Since then Saddam has been on trial. If convicted, he could
be executed within 30 days of a final judgement.

HEALTHCARE : Lasik eyecare… All about it…

Hello all,
    This week, I’m featuring the much hyped Lasik technology as the Healthcare article.

    So what is Lasik?

LASIK, an acronym for Laser-assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a form of refractive laser eye surgery procedure performed by ophthalmologists intended for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.The procedure is usually a preferred alternative to photorefractive keratectomy, PRK, as it requires less time for full recovery, and the patient experiences less pain overall. Many patients choose LASIK as an alternative to wearing corrective glasses or contact lenses. While LASIK has the ability to provide acute vision, there is no benchmark to quantify the quality of the image a patient sees.

    In a nutshell, Lasik is a technology by which your eye problems can be corrected easily by laser surgery.

    I’m not biased towards or against Lasik. It has its own advantages and disadvantages. But for a more clear understanding of Lasik, and its advantages, I reccomend a website called USAeyes.org . USAeyes is a website which provides patient advocacy for no cost. They provide information on Lasik, and certify doctors who meet certain requirements. Please note that USAeyes DOES NOT provide surgery.

    The website is clean, well presented, understandable, and has the essential information about Lasik, where to do it, reccomended doctors, evaluation and certification of doctors etc. This website has a lot of information, but since I had read up on Lasik a long time back, I find this site a bit incomplete. It could do with a basic outline of the disadvantages. But the features which evaluate and certify doctors is very good, and its quite usefull when you’re looking for a good Doctor. I would definitely reccomend this site, and vouch that its a trustworthy source, since the information that IS present in the site is good. Its a site which people who are considering Lasik should look into. And I also reccomend their certified doctors.

    The above website provides pretty much all information on how to do, where to do, and doctors to choose for Lasik. Here, I list out the complications that can arise from Lasik -

    * Dry eyes
    * Overcorrection or undercorrection
    * Visual acuity fluctuation
    * Halos or starbursts around light sources at night
    * Light sensitivity
    * Ghosts or double vision
    * Wrinkles in flap (striae)
    * Decentered ablation
    * Debris or growth under flap
    * Thin or buttonhole flap
    * Induced astigmatism
    * Epithelium erosion
    * Posterior vitreous detachment
    * Macular hole

    But dont be afraid! Every thing has a positive side and a negative side. Lasik is cost efficient, quick and hassle free. You can be up and running within days, and you’ll never have to use specs! I personally use a pair of spectacles, and I havn’t done Lasik myself, but I would reccomend it to anyone who is too busy, or cant be bothered to use glasses or contact lens…

    I hope that you’ve got a pretty much good overview on Lasik, and its importance. Please feel free to mail me for more information, but  gaurantee you, the above website will provide all services and information you need to know :) Au Revoir for now ;)

GreenPeace vs Apple… Another reason why I hate GreenPeace..

Hey all,
    I have shared my views about the famous (rather infamous) organization called GreenPeace. Here’s another reason why I hate GreenPeace!
    Now, GP has gotten it out for Apple. Yep. GP is up and against the famous creator of IPods, Macs and more… Well, they kind of lost it, if you ask me… GreenPeace uses Macs in all their offices. And they state on their website -

We love Apple. Apple knows more about “clean” design than anybody,
right? So why do Macs, iPods, iBooks and the rest of their product
range contain hazardous substances that other companies have abandoned?
A cutting edge company shouldn’t be cutting lives short by exposing
children in China and India to dangerous chemicals. That’s why we Apple fans need to demand a new, cool product: a greener Apple.

    Insanity or what? But, they have gone on further to say -

It’s not about bruising Apple’s image, Apple should be an environmental
leader. We want Apple to be at the forefront of green technology, and
to clearly show other companies how to do it the right way. But YOU
have to tell Apple to go green to the core — they listen to their
customers, not to Greenpeace.

    Hmmm… Interesting. Does GreenPeace heads draw lots every weekend on which company to support, and which to bury?

    Well, a fellow blogger, Vectronic’s Apple World, has put up a very sensible article on this latest battle.

Why does Greenpeace have it in for Apple? I would wager a good sum of
money on the proposition that Steve Jobs and company favor Greenpeace
and their ilk. Steve Jobs is the quintessential example of a hippy
turned yuppie. He probably recycles all his garbage. He probably votes
the straight Democratic ticket. He probably likes big government. He
probably stays up late at night worrying about global warming. He
probably thinks George Bush is really the Anti-Christ. So why does
Greenpeace find it necessary to attack Apple?

    My hate to GreenPeace started with them campaigning against a company where my dad used to work. The Fertilizers And Chemicals Travancore Ltd (FACT) was blamed for a lot of pollution - actually caused by other companies(who donated generously to the Green Peace Fund). They wanted to shut down FACT. They didnt realize that fact that FACT was the pioneer and one of the biggest Fertilizer company in India, and it provided Fertilizers at the cheapest rates in India, and abroad. If it shut down, then we would have seen yet another starvation famine in the Indian subcontinent! But why should GP care? They get their purses filled to shout against a company, they’re happy!

    Green Peace is nothing but a group of money hungry, senseless activists! They need to be shut down for good!

    Well, anyway, back to the Apple vs GreenPeace, I’m waiting for Steve Jobs to put in a good comment against the GreenPeace… :)
