Hey all,
    I was contacted by NCNatural’s Coupon Site to do a sponsered review about their site. Well, I was first not very interested, because I believed that most of these free coupon sites were nothing but fake…

About Arguments… Are they a weak man’s weapon? Or have the world got it wrong?

Hello all,
    A friend, named Shanu, contacted me via Orkut. I guess he is a BlogForPeace ex-reader :) I found his blog quite interesting, thoughtful, and philosophical. Today, a particular thread caught my eye. Titled “Àrguments Are A Weak Man’s Weapon?” it discussed and portrayed why arguments are NOT a weak man’s weapon.

    I truly agree with Shanu in this cause, since as he says, arguments are the tools of a rational man. An idiot, like in the case of politicians, use baseless arguments to support their baseless, powerhungry regimes. But a rational, thoughtful, and humane man uses arguments as his tool to making people understand the situation, or to clear up a misconception.

    Shanu has portrayed most of my views on this issue, and so, I can’t say too much. But as he says, when a situation arises, where a minority is fighting tough against a majority of opinion, it turns out that the minority was right, and majority was wrong. Very evident and obvious in our daily lives. We see it happening all around us, and ofcourse, in course of time, we ourselves have been parts of such majorities and minorities!

    Again, as Shanu has said, the winner of a debate is not a person who quoted many surveys and statistics (65% of all statistics are made up :D ) but the person who used the facts to portray his feel about the issue and make it etch an impact on the listeners’ minds.

    In the play “Julius Caesar” by Shakespeare, we see that the croud is moved by the speech by Marc Antonius, when he used poetic and emotional techniques, rather than Brutus’s because Brutus spoke with facts, and in prose.

    Shanu, I really HAVE to hand it to you for making a great article of the topic. Dear readers, Shanu’s article is damned interesting, and you might as well take a look at it - “Àrguments Are A Weak Man’s Weapon?“.

    I quote from the end of Shanu’s article -

You may want to evade the very thought of arguing with a rational man
as he will tear you down to pieces.But you can’t evade the reality,you
can’t evade the facts.You may keep silence, may assert that you won’t
respond - no one responds when he doesn’t have a definite answer to the
question asked.You can’t argue with a fool.He will not listen.He may
get you into an argument exposing his stupidity,but the moment you take
your rationality out of your bag,you see him run.He knows it better
that he feels lousy and inferior infront of you arguments.Is that the
reason for the hatred of your arguments?

You may say your
opponents words hurt ,you may say his words are cruel and
offensive.Yet,you can’t refute a single sentence of it.Such is the
nature of a rational argument.Is that why you call arguments a weak
man’s weapon?
