“Water” loses out… :( … But never mind…
Hey all,
I dont know how many of you have seen the film, but there was this film named “Water” by Deepa Mehta, which was competing for the Oscar race… Heres a report from CNN IBN…

Water loses Oscar, still a ‘triumph’
Los Angeles: Indian-born Canadian director Deepa Mehta’s Water, a film on the plight of Hindu widows in the India of 1930s, lost out to Germany’s The Lives of Others in the Oscar race.
A dazzling first feature from German writer and director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, won the Academy award for the best foreign-language film at a glittering ceremony in Los Angeles Sunday.
But as The New York Times said, “Win or lose tomorrow (Sunday) night at the Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, one contender - Deepa Mehta’s Water, a nominee for best foreign-language film will already have scored its greatest triumph simply by existing.”
In January 2000, rioting Hindu
nationalists in India shut down her sets after she had spent just two
days filming her story of an eight-year-old widow shunned by
traditional society in the holy city of Varanasi, noted a curtain
raiser on the awards.Asked by local officials to leave, Mehta
began again five years and two films later, this time in neighbouring
Sri Lanka, the daily recalled, describing it as an “Indian film with
roots so deep that it defies borders”.In the course of this film’s sometimes
harrowing trip to the screen - it took 11 years in all - she weathered
death threats, lawsuits and an unexpected reconciliation with a distant
daughter.”So an Oscar, if not exactly anticlimactic, would not be the most extraordinary thing to have come Mehta’s way,” the Times said.
Water benefited from a change in
the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences rules this year that
allows a foreign-language entry to be in a different language from its
country of origin, as long as the “creative talent of that country
exercised artistic control”.Mehta and producer David Hamilton are
Canadians, and the film qualified as Canada’s official entry. India,
where Mehta was born and lived until 1973, “would never have put me
up”, she said.Water has been sold in 57 countries
and released in 25, with close to $14 million in worldwide ticket
sales. It is finally scheduled to open theatrically in India on March 9.Water had survived one preliminary cut and a secondary trim to nine finalists before joining The Lives of Others, Pan’s Labyrinth (Mexico), Days of Glory (Algeria), and After the Wedding (Denmark) among the top five nominees.
The Lives of Others, a captivating
and wrenching film depicts with a rigorous, straightforward focus on
the way the Stasi monitored and tried to control speech and even
thought in the German Democratic Republic in 1984.
Hmmm…. I hadn’t exactly seen the movie, but I had received a blow-by-blow story from one of my friends, a film freak, and it seemed like quite a good movie. I was touched by the way the story ran, and how Mehta strived to finish her movie.
Tell me what YOU think about the story, the film, and Deepa Mehta’s run for the making…. Adios, until next time

Ofcourse, had I been a better photographer, I would have done a better job with my Canon PowerShot A95, but for the time being

PPP Segmentation shoot up Bloggers revenue scheme
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Last month, PayPerPost, the online firm which focuses on blog marketing, released their Version 3 BETA. It featured a brand new innovative system, which had been in the works for over a year. Named “Segmentation”, it allowed advertisers to CHOOSE their requirement of bloggers while sumbitting an oppurtunity.

Now, bloggers taking up post oppurtunities are subjected to a filter, including parameters like Age, Sex, Location, Page Rank, Alexa Rating, Tack Score(this is the rating given to bloggers by advertisers), Disclosure and a few others, as specified by advertisers.
And whats the benefit? For advertisers, Segmentation brought in tools to select the bloggers they wanted, thus giving their product a highly specific way of advertising. For bloggers, it brought about a revolution, such that a blogger could earn up to $1000 for a single post!!!! Yes, I, as a PPP Postie, have been eyeing all those high high high paying opps! I saw Opps which were worth $1000, $123, $80, $60 and so on and so forth, but I couldn’t take any of them since my blog did not satisfy the conditions required due to a small problem from my side (specified the wrong URL to PPP
). Anyway, before I used to see Opps in the ranges of $4 - $7 at an average. Now, almost every post is worth more than $12…

Thus, its a dual benifit system, benefitting bloggers AND advertisers. Oops, did I say dual? I mean threefold… Benifitting bloggers, advertisers AND PayPerPost
From the advertiser point of view, did you know that PPP only charges 35% service fee? Other competitors, like ReviewMe, charge 100%! Thus, PPP is also effectively increasing the amount of money a blogger can earn, and also making it easy for start up companies to afford Consumer Generated Advertising.
Thus, in short, and sweet words, PPP ROCKS!!!!
:D
Adios until next time

Ahimsa…
Hello all,
Today, I would like to share with you a few thoughts about Ahimsa, nonviolence. I am a supporter of ahimsa though I’m not able to follow it strictly in every sphere of my life. Ahimsa is the great philosophy which arose in India. Later, made popular by Mahatma Gandhi and Sir Vivekananda, this principle deals with a-himsa, meaning, prevention of violence.

Gandhiji, on being questioned about ahimsa said thus,
Literally speaking, ahimsa means non-violence. But to me it has much higher, infinitely
higher meaning. It means that you may not offend anybody; you may not harbor
uncharitable
thought, even in connection with those who consider your enemies. To one who follows this
doctrine, there are no enemies. A man who believes in the efficacy of this
doctrine finds in
the ultimate stage, when he is about to reach the goal, the whole world at his feet.
If
you express your love- Ahimsa-in such a manner that it impresses itself indelibly upon
your so called enemy, he must return that love. This doctrine tells us that we may guard
the honor of those under our charge by delivering our own lives into the hands of
the man who would commit the sacrilege. And that requires far greater courage than
delivering of blows.
So what is actually ahimsa and why practice it? Simple. Following the principle of ahimsa promotes love. In the more practical sense, it produces peace; something really essential in our world today.
There is one religion - the religion of love, of peace. There is one message, the
message of Ahimsa. Ahimsa is a supreme duty of man.

You can read more about ahimsa, its principles, and how to practice it in this article written by Sri Swami Sivananda. I will quote a few lines from the article…
In the regeneration and divinisation of man, the first step is to
eliminate his beastly nature. The predominant trait in beasts is cruelty. Therefore, wise
sages prescribe Ahimsa (non-injury). This is the most effective master-method to
counteract and eradicate completely the brutal, cruel Pasu-Svabhava (bestial nature) in
man.Practice of Ahimsa develops love. Ahimsa is another name for truth or love. Ahimsa is
universal love. It is pure love. It is divine Prem. Where there is love, there you will
find Ahimsa. Where there is Ahimsa, there you will find love and selfless service. They
all go together. The one message of all saints and prophets of all times and climes, is the message of
love, of Ahimsa, of selfless service. Ahimsa is the noblest and best of traits that are
found expressed in the daily life and activities of perfected souls. Ahimsa is the one
means, not only to attain Salvation, but also to enjoy uninterrupted peace and bliss. Man
attains peace by injuring no living creature. There is one religion - the religion of love, of peace. There is one message, the
message of Ahimsa. Ahimsa is a supreme duty of man.Ahimsa, or refraining from causing pain to any living creature, is a distinctive
quality emphasized by Indian ethics. Ahimsa or non-violence has been the central doctrine
of Indian culture from the earliest days of its history. Ahimsa is a great spiritual
force.
What is ahimsa?
Ahimsa or non-injury, of course, implies non-killing. But, non-injury is
not merely non-killing. In its comprehensive meaning, Ahimsa or non-injury means entire
abstinence from causing any pain or harm whatsoever to any living creature, either by
thought, word, or deed. Non-injury requires a harmless mind, mouth, and hand.Ahimsa is not mere negative non-injury. It is positive, cosmic love. It is the
development of a mental attitude in which hatred is replaced by love. Ahimsa is true
sacrifice. Ahimsa is forgiveness. Ahimsa is Sakti (power). Ahimsa is true strength.
How do you practice ahimsa?
When thoughts of revenge and hatred arise in the mind, try to control the
physical body and speech first. Do not utter evil and harsh words. Do not censure. Do not
try to injure others. If you succeed in this by practice for some months, the negative
thoughts of revenge, having no scope for manifesting outside, will die by themselves. It
is extremely difficult to control such thoughts from the very beginning without having
recourse to control of the body and speech first.First control your physical body. When a man beats you, keep quiet. Suppress your
feelings. Follow the instructions of Jesus Christ in his Sermon On The Mount:
“If a man beats you on one cheek, turn to him the other cheek also. If a man takes
away your coat, give him your shirt also.” This is very difficult in the beginning.
The old Samskaras (impressions) of revenge, of “a tooth for a tooth”, “tit
for tat”, “an eye for an eye”, and “paying in the same coin” will
all force you to retaliate. But you will have to wait cooly. Reflect and meditate. Do
Vichara or right enquiry. The mind will become calm. The opponent who was very furious
will also become calm, because he does not get any opposition from your side. He gets
astonished and terrified also, because you stand like a sage. By and by, you will gain
immense strength. Keep the ideal before you. Try to get at it, though with faltering steps
at first. Have a clear-cut mental image of Ahimsa and its immeasurable advantages. After controlling the body, control your speech. Make a strong determination, “I
will not speak any harsh word to anybody from today”. You may fail a hundred times.
What does it matter ? You will slowly gain strength. Check the impulse of speech. Observe
Mouna (silence). Practice Kshama or forgiveness. Say within yourself: “He is a
baby-soul. He is ignorant, that is why he has done it. Let me excuse him this time. What
do I gain by abusing him in return ?” Slowly give up Abhimana (ego-centred
attachment). Abhimana is the root-cause of human sufferings. Finally go to the thoughts and check the thought of injuring. Never even think of
injuring anyone. One Self dwells in all. All are manifestations of One God. By injuring
another, you injure your own Self. By serving another, you serve your own Self. Love all.
Serve all. Hate none. Insult none. Injure none in thought, word and deed. Try to behold
your own Self in all beings. This will promote Ahimsa.
Why practice Ahimsa?
The power of Ahimsa is greater than the power of the intellect. It is easy
to develop the intellect, but it is difficult to purify and develop the heart. The
practice of Ahimsa develops the heart in a wonderful manner. He who practices Ahimsa develops strong will-power. In his presence, enmity ceases. In
his presence, cobra and frog, cow and tiger, cat and rat, wolf and lamb, will all live
together in terms of intimate friendship. In his presence, all hostilities are given up.
The term ‘hostilities are given up’ means that all beings - men, animals, birds and
poisonous creatures will approach the practitioner without fear and do no harm to him.
Their hostile nature disappears in them in his presence. The rat and the cat, the snake
and the mongoose, and other beings that are enemies of each other by nature, give up their
hostile feelings in the presence of the Yogi who is established in Ahimsa. Lions and
tigers can never do any harm to such a Yogi. Such a Yogi can give definite orders to lion
and tigers. They will obey. This is Bhuta-Siddhi (mastery over the elements) obtainable by
the practice of Ahimsa. The practice of Ahimsa will eventually culminate in the
realization of unity and oneness of life, or Advaitic (non-dual) Consciousness. The Yogi
then enjoys the highest peace, bliss and immortality.
Is ahimsa really “practicable”?
Absolute Ahimsa is impossible. It is not possible to the most
conscientious Sannyasin or monk. To practice that, you must avoid killing countless
creatures while walking, sitting, eating, breathing, sleeping and drinking. You cannot
find a single non-injurer in the world. You have to destroy life in order to live. It is
physically impossible for you to obey the law of non-destruction of life, because the
phagocytes of your blood also are destroying millions of dangerous intrusive spirilla,
bacteria and germs.According to one school of thought, if by the murder of a dacoit many lives are saved,
it is not considered as Himsa. Ahimsa and Himsa are relative terms. Some say that one can
defend oneself with instruments and use a little violence also when one is in danger; this
is not considered to be Himsa. Westerners generally destroy their dear horses and dogs
when they are in acute agony and when there is no way of relieving their sufferings. They
wish that the soul should be immediately freed from the physical body. Motive is the chief
factor that underlies everything.A renunciate or monk should not defend himself and use violence even when his life is
in jeopardy. To an ordinary man, Ahimsa should be the aim, but he will not fall from this
principle if, out of sheer necessity and with no selfish aim, he takes recourse to Himsa
occasionally. One should not give leniency to the mind in this respect. If you are
lenient, the mind will always take the best advantage of you and goad you to do acts of
violence. Give a rogue an inch, he will take an ell: the mind at once adapts this
policy, if you give a long rope for its movement.Ahimsa is never a policy. It is a sublime virtue. It is the fundamental quality of
seekers after Truth. No Self-realization is possible without Ahimsa. It is through the
practice of Ahimsa alone that you can cognize and reach the Supreme Self or Brahman. Those
with whom it is a policy may fail many a time. They will be tempted to do violent acts
also. On the contrary, those who strictly adhere to the vow of Ahimsa as a sacred creed or
fundamentals cannon of Yoga, can never be duped into violence.
And finally, the Swami gives this message, which is the very same I wanted to share…
Ahimsa is a Mahavratam or “great universal vow”. It should be
practiced by all people of all countries. It does not concern the Hindus or Indians alone.
Whoever wishes to realize the Truth must practice Ahimsa. You may encounter any amount of
difficulties; you may sustain any amount of losses, but you must not give up the practice
of Ahimsa. Trial and difficulties are bound to come in your way to test your strength. You
should stand adamant. Then alone will your efforts be crowned with sanguine success. There is a hidden power in Ahimsa which protects its practitioners. The invisible hand
of God gives protection. There is no fear. What can pistols and swords do ?Even now there are people who do not give the least pain to any living creature. They
carry sugar and rice for distribution to ants in their holes. They do not use lights at
night for fear of killing the small insects. They are very careful while walking in the
streets, as they do not wish to trample upon small insects.Blessed are these men. They will soon see God as they have very soft hearts.
Yes ladies and gentlemen, let us join hands to practice, promote and develop ahimsa. The words above are the words of wise men. Let us follow their words, and let us make this world a better place!

Smiles…
Hey all,
Today, as I was emersed in the boring theories of extra boring Physics, I came across a pretty interesting thought… It was about the meaning conveyed in a smile…
:)
:)
:)
:)
:)
A simple movement of the lip muscles… A simple greeting conveyed; a signature of friendship; a mark of acquaintance; an essay of meaning; anything from a mark of friendship, to an ocean of expression.
Its true, smile and the world smiles at you
This same smile can be used as a means of peace. As a way of marking your friendship, as a bonding of guests, as a reuniting of enemies… A simple gesture which can be used to spread universal brotherhood and world peace… A gesture of goodwill, loads of “yin” and other forms of positive energy.
There was a friend of mine who kept scribbling all over “Smile smile smile”. At that time, I thought she was just a big fat showoff, but now I realize that she was far from it! Now I appreciatively peer at the cards she had distributed when she left, and nod at the small quote which said “open with a smile :)”.

So, what IS the reason for me thinking up all these when I’m actually supposed to be studying? Simple. I got bored, and I was yet again checking out the school magazine (which I made) and I came across an article written by a junior of mine. At the time she handed it over, we used it to make fun of her and tease her, but now when looked at with a more serious attitude, I think that we should have encouraged her to write more. Ofcourse, she might not have dreamed of the more philosophical implications of what she had composed, but then, “accidental philosophy” shall we say?
Smiles
Smiling is infectious; you can catch it like a flu,
When someone smiled at me, I started smiling too!
When I passed the corner, someone saw my grin,
When he smiled, I realized I passed it onto him!
I thought about that smile, and realized its worth,
A single smile like mine, would travel around the earth!
So if you feel a smile begin, don’t leave it undetected,
Lets start an epidemic quick, and get the world infected!- A. J. [name withheld for privacy reasons]
[this poem is copyrighted by The Udyogamandal School Editorial Board]
So what do you think? This little piece of literature is not exactly what I would call sensational, but its “cute”.
I like the thought… Smiling infectious… Lol… Especially when its used against boys by cute girls

Oh, the poet here is talking about herself smiling at her brother, and her brother smiling back, so please dont run away with false implications either
Anyway, back to the subject at hand, smiling DOES seem to be quite infectious
And what I would like to focus on is the line “A single smile like mine, would travel around the earth!”. A single smile could travel around the earth, and can you imagine how much peace it would cause? Its such a wonderful thought isnt it?
Simple and sweet. Keep smiling
Spread the smiles
Lets join those smiles, and make this world a better place
So ladies and gentlemen, cutting it short here, ‘coz time is short, and exams are near, so time is directly proportional to marks
Keeeeeeeeeeeeeep smiling…. (CAUTION : Dont keep smiling 24X7… You might end up in an asylum
)

PPP and their brand new “Review My Post”
Hey all,
Have you been wondering about those odd buttons below every BlogForPeace post which says “Get paid to review this post!” ? Well, stop wondering, and start wandering over to PayPerPost! PPP in a great new initiative launched the “Review My Post!” programme which pays the blogger when a person signs up using the “Review my post” link on his or her blogs. AND the reviewer gets money for reviewing the post as well
How cool is that?
Actually its a new initiative by PPP to advertise on blogs for more viewership from the blogging community.
I think that its a nice way to earn money, and increase traffic, because who wouldn’t love money? AND this programme is applicable for ALL PayPerPost bloggers! Its a cool way to make money via PPP while not doing paid posts. So if you arent interested in doing paid posts, you can still create a handsome revenue my sporting these radical buttons below each of your post
Its all part of the new version of PayPerPost, the BETA 3.x series. Cool isnt it? The blogger gets paid $7.50 when a new user gets paid to review the post! And the best part is, the post to be reviewed can be non-sponsored ones as well! So you get money when a user signs up and reviews your vacation photos blog
Ofcourse, the system HAS got its own defects. A blogger may get unwanted comments about his post, and may have to put up with “paid criticism”
But ofcourse, for blogs like BlogForPeace, which contributes all money it receives to charity, criticism doesnt seem such a bad exchange for a couple of lives saved
So if you’re interested, just click that small button below this post which says “Get paid to review this post”!
Adios… Oh, by the way, this was a sponsored post, sponsored by PayPerPost, but it no way were my views altered by the money involved
Cheerios…

What does it mean to succeed?
Hey all,
I found this quote in a blog. I recently came across this blog, and havnt yet got time to go through it fully. But this quote was a long term favourite of mine, and it brought back memories…
To Laugh often and much, to win the respect of
intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the
appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false
friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the
world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a
redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier
because you have lived. THIS IS TO HAVE SUCCEEDED.—- Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-82)
Yep. By Ralph Emerson, and full of meaning. Its very much similar to the poem “If” by Rudyard Kipling which I had posted earlier. Beautiful ![]()

Attitude is every thing…
Hi all,
A few months back, I received an email forward from one of the persons I trust the most on this planet. It went on to say the importance of attitude…
An old man lived alone in Minnesota. He wanted to spade his potato garden, but it was very hard work. His only son,who would have helped him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and mentioned his situation:
——————————————
Dear Son,
I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my potato garden this year. I hate to misdoing the garden, because your mother always loved planting time. I’m just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot.If you were here, all my troubles would be over.I know you would dig the plot, for me if you weren’t in the prison.
Love,
Dad
——————————————Shortly ,the old man received this telegram:
——————————————
“For Heaven’s sake, Dad, don’t dig up the garden !!That’s where I buried the GUNS!!”
——————————————At 4 a.m.the next morning, a dozen FBI agents and local police officers showed up and dug up the entire garden without finding any guns.
Confused, the old man wrote another note to his son telling him what happened and asked him what to do next.
His son’s reply was:——————————————
“Go ahead and plant your potatoes, Dad It’s the best I could do for you from here.”
——————————————NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE IN THE WORLD, IF YOU HAVE DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING DEEP FROM YOUR HEART, YOU CAN DO IT,. IT IS THE THOUGHT THAT MATTERS NOT WHERE YOU ARE.
Attitude is Everything……
Indeed a wise message! Attitude is everything!

So if a son in jail could dig up his fathers farm, why cant people like you and me help stop war? The answer is, YES WE CAN! Buddha wanted to be enlightened, and he wanted to spread peace, he had the right attitude, and acheived his aim! Gandhiji wanted to stop war, and spread peace, he had the right attitude, and he spread peace over two continents! So if YOU want to spread peace, YOU CAN!
What provoked me to post about attitude right now, right here, is a bunch of so called “geeks” from a stupid blog. The blog specialized in critisizing other blogs, and calling themselves “supreme” while they were what they were - low down and stinking. Ofcourse, they had a cult with them. The so called cult which calls themselves “geeks” from another universe with the “best blogs on earth” to be a model for other “weaklings”.
These people happened to visit BlogForPeace, and they were laughing, CORRECTION, laughing at, the site, the organization, the supporters, and the readers of this blog. Why? They say that this is absolute stupidity, and that no one can do anything at all. They said that I’m mad, and that I’m just a fool with another of those “save the world” idiosyncrasies.
Maybe all that is true, but then what they said about “couldn’t save the world” is absolute bull****! Its all in the attitude. If you believe that you can stop war, you CAN stop war! If you believe that you can create peace, you CAN create peace. Whatever other people say, whatever other people might opinion, its YOUR belief which counts, and finally, it is YOU who WILL make a difference, provided you have the right attitude!
So believe in yourself, get a proper attitude, and there lies open a limitless ocean of oppurtunities and stakes. Adios dear readers, until next time, keep beleiving…

Loans in UK…
Hey all,
This is a post to tell you about the various loans available in UK from a loan site named UK Personal Loan Store.

Why do people take loans? To tide over different situations.
This is traditionally the time of year when people will use the equity
tied up in their home to take out a secured loan for home improvements.
Thus quotes the site I mentioned above. I guess it might be because summer is approaching and because the financial year is about to end. Home owner loans or secured loans may be for a room extension, double glazing, upgrading of general features, landscaping, starting a new business, buying a new car, upgrading an old car, to conduct a wedding, to go for a honeymoon, to go for a holiday, to buy a new computer, to get that new mobile set, or even to conduct a grand party for all your friends!
Ofcourse, you can also use this site to seach for mortgages or remortgages. Both which are used for long term money plans… That is, if you’re short on a lot of money…
Anyway, check out the website if you’re looking for a loan! They have comprehensive information on all types of loans, and will tell you all you need to know about loans.
Cheerio
Oh, and as you might have already guessed, this was a sponsored post brought to you by UK Personal Loan Store, but the money offered has in no way edited or altered my views or the text portrayed by this post
