Love binds everything together…

In this universe it is love that binds everything together. Love is the very foundation, beauty and fulfillment of life.
Amma (Mata Amritanandamayi Devi)

Only when goodness awakens within…

Hi all,
    Here’s another of Mata Amritandamayi’s famous quotes…

Only
when goodness awakens within, will one’s personality and actions
gain beauty and strength.
Amma (Mata Amritanandamayi Devi)

When goodness awakens within, your personality and actions will gain in beauty, strength and understanding. You will understand whats good and bad. You will define what is good and bad. You will comprehend what is good and bad. Here, when I saw good and bad, I mean the good and bad ACCORDING to what YOU think; YOUR views on the matter.

To awake your goodness, simply define what is good and bad, and look at the positive side of everything. Even a negative has a positive. Every black cloud has a silver lining! For hundreds, a black cloud brings sorrow and woe, since it indicates lack of sunshine. For millions, a black cloud initiates joy, happiness, and celebration, because it is the bringer of rain!

Similarly, in everything you do, there is a good aspect and a bad aspect. What you do might be good or bad, where “good” and “bad” are defined by yourself and yourself alone with no one else’s intervention, but whether the deed be good or bad, when looked at from the worldly point of view, it has both yin, and yang.

Dont consider the negatives. Consider the positives. Thus, you can awake the goodness within! Then, you will find beauty in your actions. You will find love in things previously despised! You will understand the subtle and austere beauty of our world! Love, love, love our world! Find your goodness, and keep at it! Why dont you make this world a better place for yourself?

A message worth the forward!

Hello all,
All of us receive idiotic, mostly foolish, email forwards from friends, relatives, colleagues and sort… We all waste our time reading through it…

But heres a forward thats really WORTH SENDING. The UNICEF donates $5 to child welfare if you sign up for their eNewsletter! Now isnt that something WORTH sending?

Stop forwarding useless emails, and start sending something genuine and useful! Invite all your friends to join, and watch the amounts for charity swell…

I personally reccomend that all of you join, since its free, painless, takes 5 seconds, and they do not spam you. They send monthly newsletters.

Adios for now :)

Remember what I said about attitude? Here’s a cool example…

Hey all,
Do you guys remember what I said about “attitude” a couple of weeks back? (I know you dont, but I live my life believing that my articles are admired and memorised by a big bunch of readers, so dont hurt my ego, please dig up that article using the Search feature, or Digg up that article using digg.com, and continue reading this…)

Anyway… Once upon a time, uh, I mean, 2 years back, I had a senior. She, yes its a girl(duh!), was a very intelligent, witty, *short* gal whom everyone adored, but also teased due to her *height* which stopped a half inch to five foot ;) I remember her as what we call a “book-worm” or a “studious geek”. Ofcourse, juniors always form extremely puffed up images of seniors which may be entirely untrue (for example, a few of MY juniors keep saying that I’m “cool”).

While I was browsing through the vast expanses of the internet today, I came across her blog, and she had this interesting post(yes, all this blabber was just an introduction to her post, this IS a PEACE blog - I can’t just say “Here’s a cool post” - I need to find a hidden moral :P ). The post went on to say about those things about herself that she was “definitely proud of“, but the list included her strengths as well as her infirmities. It went on like this -

1.My height
Vertically challenged that i am, i epitomise the fact that ” sweet things definitely come in small packages”

2.My smile
Warm, genuine and worth a million dollars. I manage to show ” 64 teeth in one go”

3.My haircut
The IN thing in fashion world, i spent 120 bucks for a hair cut that makes me” look like hutch puppie’s twin” with my hair open.

4.My Voice
Husky, “sexy” and different. I possess the unique ability to ” sound like a guy over the phone”

5,My music skills
” Would beat norah jones at the grammys”. they said it rite, I ROCK

7.My math
you just can’t beat me at it. Oops!! did i just count six on my fingers??

8.My sense of humour
Goofy, campy and clever. I am the ” queen of PJs”

9.My friends
Wonderful, wise and wacky . My biggest asset and the bestest assortment you can possibly come across.

10.My family
Supportive, caring and the best ever. Love you loads

Footnote:
I know the article is sweet. Told you anything small is.

Toenote:
you gotta know me well to appreciate the article. Sincere heartfelt apologies to all those fans who haven’t met me yet.

Nailnote:
For the ignorant, anything within quotes are utterances by great men and women

Now thats what I call attitude :). Here’s a person who is ready for the “people ready” world ;). Be proud of whatever you are! Be proud of your strengths! Be proud of your weaknesses as well! Because there is no positive without a negative. Nature loves symmetry. Did scientists ignore electrons because they had a negative charge, and look at only the positive protons? Nope. And now, because they did not ignore electrons, we have an array theories and applications, which makes life a lot more interesting, simpler, and understandable.

Philosophers may say, “Look at the positive side”. I don’t. When approached by an adverse situation, I think, “How can I approach this and conquer this? Through its positive effect or negative effect?”. In certain cases, your weaknesses turn into strengths. In certain cases, come to think about it, your negatives turn positives. And like Stephen Hawkings, you might discover that the negatives are absorbed by the good ol’ black hole, leaving only positives (Theory of entropy of Black Holes - explosion of Black Holes)…

Check :). And yes, I’m checking my post here as well. I have a fat lot more of Biology to complete before my final exam on Wednesday… So caio! Azeera chechi, if you’re reading this, thanks for yet another object to write on :)

P.S: Big news coming tomorrow (If I risk it online…) A sister site to be launched :) Stay tuned :)

Compassion… by Mata Amritanandamayi

The
first step in spiritual life is to have compassion. A person
who is kind and loving never needs to go searching for God.
God rushes toward any heart that beats with compassion-it is
God’s favorite place.

ICC Cricket World Cup begins on a positive note…

Hello all,
The International Cricket Council World Cup 2007, the biggest cricketing event, kicked off in Jamaica a few days back. What was so special about it that a peace blog is talking about it? Well, they went a few steps ahead for humanitarian causes!

[Team India enters the Trelawny Multi Purpose stadium in Jamaica during the ICC World Cup Opening Ceremony, with a young boy wearing the AIDS Campaign T-Shirt]

ICC had tied up with UNICEF to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS through the world’s largest cricketing event, watched from over 5 continents!

QUOTE FROM UNICEF :
While the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 will see the world’s top 16 teams
do battle on the field, off the field they will be as one in supporting
the Unite for Children. Unite against AIDS campaign.

A truly worthwile cause! Since this programme is watched by more that 2.9 billion viewers worldwide, awareness through it is a worthwile idea.

The ICC Cricket World Cup partnership will help awaken the world to the
fact that “AIDS is robbing tens of millions of children of childhood
itself,” said UNICEF’s Representative in Jamaica, Bertrand Bainvel. Mr.
Bainvel spoke at a Kingston news conference held last week in the
run-up to the matches.

“Children have been the missing face of the AIDS pandemic,” said UNICEF
Executive Director Ann M. Veneman. “The International Cricket Council
will be a powerful ally in ensuring that children are at the heart of
the global response to the epidemic.”

The UNICEF website reports that to mark the occasion, they will be re-launching the “Unite for Children. Unite against Aids” website with a special section featuring video profiles of cricketers talking about the impact of AIDS on children.

During the tournament, special broadcast messages, like these, will be shown on TV. These messages were done by the Top 28 cricketers of the world including Indian Captain, Rahul Dravid, and Austrlian Captain, Ricky Pointing.

Players and officials from each team will wear the red and blue campaign ribbon during their first games and during the final. Players will also visit UNICEF-funded programmes in the Caribbean supporting children and young people affected by HIV.

With support from the Kaiser Family Foundation, the Caribbean Broadcast Media Partnership on HIV/AIDS – a coalition of over 50 broadcasters in 23 Caribbean countries and territories – is also launching the region’s first media-led, multi-platform campaign on HIV/AIDS, known as LIVE UP!

Thus, the much awaited ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 has paved the way for an extensive global campaign on HIV/AIDS, which, no doubt, will prove effective, since citizens of countries like India hero-worship their cricketers (I, being an Indian youth, should know :D ). Cheerios to ICC!

Serving the world…

Hey all…
Here’s another quote by Mata Amritandamayi for you :)

Serving the world with love and cooperation, you will find your own true Self. As you help those in need, selfishness will fall away, and without even noticing you will find your own fulfillment.
Amma (Mata Amritanandamayi Devi)

So true… At first, you feel sick and disgusted when you look at the real world. Then you feel that you CAN do something to make it better. Then you keep aside time for the “doing something” and DO IT. While doing it, you feel, “Its a big waste of time, but then its worth sacrificing my happiness for the happiness of others!”

But all of a sudden you realize that you feel entirely please and wholesome. You feel extremely happy to see all those smiling faces looking at you. You find happiness in serving the world.

THAT is what is absolute realization…

When I started with BlogForPeace, and told my friend, a good philosopher and guide, that I would be donating all proceeds to charity, he scoffed. A few months back, when I finally started earning something really good from this blog, I told my friend that after I had recovered the hosting amount, I will be donating the rest to charity.

At that time, he told me that I have a huge heart and an open mind to do that! He told me that most of the people wont do such things, because the rather keep the money for themselves. I told him, that I find joy in helping the world, and he replied that very few people find joy in such futile exercises…

Now, when I look back at all those conservations, I feel that he was being extremely silly. I’ve donated more than $300 already to charity. And that was ENTIRELY earned from BlogForPeace. And I feel good :) I feel extremely HAPPY to have done that. My friend was wrong… I dont have a very open heart or mind. I’m one of the most selfish people on Earth :D And still, I feel good to have helped this world in any little way I can…

If I can do it, then I’m sure that you definitely can! Yes, Amma’s saying is quite true and worldly. “…even without noticing, you will find your own fulfillment…

Serve the world. Help make it better. Campaign against war. Aid the poor and diseased. Conserve our Nature. Protect other living organisms. And lets make this world, a truly better place to live in! Lets make ourselves proud by the image of Mother Earth, rather than feeling ashamed with her woes. Lets give this groaning Earth a reason to smile!

Is God a Man or a Woman? - Amma

Is
God a Man or a Woman ? The answer to this question is neither—-
God is That. But if you must give God a gender, God is more
female than male, for he is contained in She.

Hmmm….. Amma’s dream…

Hello all,
First, allow me to apologise, since I have not been very frequent in my postings for the last couple of days… And I wont be, for the next couple of days… Its due to my exams… The last lap of my educationary life ;)

Anyway, today, I’ll introduce you to Mata Amritanandamayi. She is a humanitarian and a human rights activist. You might have heard of her… She’s one of my role models, or rather, my heros… I’m an avid fan of Amma(she’s called “Amma” by her devotees).

I’ll tell you more about her in the days to come… For the time being, I’ll tell you what her dream is…

“Everyone in the world should be able to sleep without fear, at least
for one night. Everyone should be able to eat to his fill, at least for
one day. There should be at least one day when hospitals see no one
admitted due to violence.
By doing selfless service for at least one day, everyone should help the poor and needy.
It is Amma’s prayer that at least this small dream be realised.”

-Mata Amritanandamayi Devi

Article to be continued… After 2 days… I wont be posting anything for the next 2 days…. Adios…

50 Ways to promote peace…

Hello all,
I found this amazing page which listed 50 ways to promote peace. What’s amazing is that, the page was from the website of BenJerry’s. Now what has a company which deals in diary products got to do with peace?

I definetely do not know what…

Anyway, the message they conveyed was quite meaningful, and worth the read. So here you have it…

Oh, by the way, the source page : http://www.benjerry.com/features/50_ways/50ways.cfm

1.
Be a media guerilla. Use e-mail, fax, photocopies, and newsletters to
broadcast the message of peace. Spread empowering information.

2. Attend a peace rally. Check out United For Peace & Justice or Peace.Protest.net to find out about marches for peace around the country.

3. Host a peace speaker at an event in your community or at your workplace.

4. Get to know your neighbors. It’s hard to reclaim peace without a sense of community.

5.
Make friends with someone of another race, ethnicity, age, ability, or
sexual orientation. Appreciating and embracing diversity helps to
promote peace.

6. Take an
adventure to neighborhoods of your town or country that are ethnically
focused to appreciate diverse cultures. Cross-cultural understanding is
key to building peace.

7. Travel
to learn. Get first-hand experience in how things happen in other
places and bring home questions about how you do things at home.

8. Drive with patience and tolerance. Keep the peace on our streets and highways.

9.
Listen more. Really listen, without giving unsolicited advice. The
validation of being heard is often more important than solving the
problem.

10. Learn to say I’m
sorry. Learn to mean it. Learn when to say it and use it. These two
simple words can prevent violence and save relationships.

11. Be helpful. Random acts of kindness can create more peaceful communities.

12. Spend time with a youngster. This can often remind us of the meaning of a peaceful world.

13. Practice the art of patience. Be careful not to rush to judgment or action.

14. Start peace conversations. Talking peace, and listening, are critical for a vibrant democracy.

15.
Involve yourself in community parent workshops and family groups that
help parents protect, nurture, and support their children.

16. Peace begins at home. Monitor, nurture, support, and involve your children and family in keeping peace.

17. Explore your prejudices. Find out what’s behind them, how they started, & how they influence your thoughts and actions.

18. Write a peace song. Peace songs are great tools for organizing and inspiring people.

19. Use music, art, stories, and drama to explore themes of peace and nonviolence.

20. Broadcast a peace message using a peace flag, poster, badge, t-shirt, or bumper sticker.

21.
If you own a gun, keep it unloaded and locked up. Store the bullets in
a separate place and hide the key safely away from children.

22. Find your own inner peace. Set aside a few minutes or more each day of quiet, peaceful time.

23. Join a study circle. Self-education is a fast track to empowerment toward peace.

24. Attend an educational series on non-violence. Look up peace & justice organizations in your state at United For Peace & Justice and call them for information on educational series.

25. Stay tuned to what’s going on in the world through newsletters, periodicals, newspapers, radio, TV, and online.

26. Educate yourself about the violence threatening kids in your community and nationwide. Help bring safety and peace to kids at Children’s Defense Fund and End Abuse.

27. Learn another language. Being able to communicate in a foreign language helps you participate in diverse cultures.

28.
Help bring peace to the environment by reducing your carbon load
emissions. Learn what you can do at our global warming campaign site at
www.onesweetwhirled.org.

29. Learn how to fight fairly. Fight to resolve differences, not to win.

30. Register people to vote. One reason the political game’s gone sour is that too few of us play. Find out more at Rock The Vote or Project Vote Smart.

31. Become a volunteer on a peace project. Check out Peace Brigades International, Seeds of Peace, and the Peace Corps.

32. Volunteer at your local battered women’s shelter. Learn about the importance of non-violent conflict resolution.

33. Sign-up as a member of a peace organization like Global Exchange, United For Peace & Justice, or Peace Response.

34. Call a radio talk show. The good ones are often the town meetings of the airwaves.

35.
Write letters and articles in support of peace and non-violence to the
editors of your local media. Published, they can change minds, and even
unpublished they can impact the media.

36. Sign a peace pledge. A good place to start is www.peacepledge.org.

37. Adopt a politician. Write a monthly letter to your Representative, Senator, or President on peace-related issues.

38. Take social action to support specific legislative peace initiatives. Try the Waging Peace site to get started.

39.
Vote. Voting is your hard-earned right and your official voice. For
information about the democratic voting process, visit the Federal Election Commission or the Center for Voting and Democracy.

40.
Support organizations and/or campaigns that fight for basic human
rights for all people. Social justice promotes peace. For a start,
visit Global Exchange or Amnesty International.

41. Run for elective office. Be a voice for non-violent conflict resolution, reasoned sanity, and balance.

42. Learn about nuclear weapons from the Union of Concerned Scientists. Sign an appeal to end the nuclear threat. Visit the Nuclear Threat Reduction Campaign and WagingPeace.org.

43. Take part in online advocacy for peace. Some good sites to get started are 20/20 Vision and The Interfaith Alliance.

44.
Write to your own government; write to a foreign government. Let them
know you care about what they do and hold them to the same standards
for peaceful conflict resolution.

45.
Call your City Council and attend the next meeting. It’s often through
the strength of a group that changes are made and community is built.

46. Encourage peace projects for school classrooms. You can find some great ideas at CelebratingPeace.com and UNESCO.

47. Teach young people skills for non-violent conflict resolution. Learn about some great strategies from the Resolving Conflict Creatively Program or www.Images-Education.org for teachers, classrooms, parents, and students.

48. Teach young people about peace. Let your behavior reflect the values you want them to espouse.

49.
Support your community’s efforts to create jobs and training
opportunities for kids that help them become productive, contributing
adults.

50. Dig deep.
Oftentimes, reaching peaceful resolution means understanding what’s at
the root of a problem rather than what’s most apparent on the surface.

There you have it folks… I hope you will all try to do atleast a few mentioned above :) Oh, and people, why dont you all go ahead to BenJerry’s and shout a word of THANKS for putting up such a nice message? Cheers :)

International Women’s Day

Hello all,
Today is International Women’s Day. So let me wish all the grandmas, moms, girls, and newborn sweetie pie girls ;) a very happy Women’s Day.

So what is this Women’s Day thing? Its a day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women, and also a day for reinforced women woman empowerment campaigns.

Shown above is the official logo for the 2007 version of Women’s Day. In my opinion, this logo might be effective in places where impunity (i.e. exemption from punishment) is being shown for violence against the female sex. But in my native country, India, women have always been respected, and in the Hindu mythology, equal, if not more, importance is given to female Godesses as male Gods.

Anyway, a quote from the Wikipedia on the history of Women’s Day -

The first IWD was observed on 28 February 1909 in the United States following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. Among other relevant historic events, it commemorates the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire (New York, 1911), where over 140 women lost their lives. The idea of having an international women’s day was first put forward at the turn of the 20th century amid rapid world industrialization and economic expansion that led to protests over working conditions. Women from clothing and textile factories staged one such protest on 8 March 1857 in New York City. The garment workers were protesting what they saw as very poor working conditions and low wages. The protesters were attacked and dispersed by police. These women established their first labor union in the same month two years later.

More protests followed on 8 March in subsequent years, most notably in 1908 when 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights. In 1910 the first international women’s conference was held in Copenhagen (in the labour-movement building located at Jagtvej 69, which until recently housed Ungdomshuset) by the Socialist International and an ‘International Women’s Day’ was established, which was submitted by the important German Socialist Clara Zetkin. The following year, IWD was marked by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. However, soon thereafter, the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in New York City killed over 140 garment workers. A lack of safety measures was blamed for the high death toll. Furthermore, on the eve of World War I, women across Europe held peace rallies on 8 March 1913. In the West, International Women’s Day was commemorated during the 1910s and 1920s, but dwindled. It was revived by the rise of feminism in the 1960s.

Demonstrations marking International Women’s Day in Russia proved to be the first stage of the Russian Revolution of 1917. Following the October Revolution, the Bolshevik feminist Alexandra Kollontai persuaded Lenin to make it an official holiday, and it was established, but was a working day until 1965. On May 8, 1965 by the decree of the USSR Presidium of the Supreme Soviet International Women’s Day was declared as a non working day in the USSR “in commemoration of outstanding merits of the Soviet women in communistic construction, in the defense of their Motherland during the Great Patriotic War, their heroism and selflessness at the front and in rear, and also marking the big contribution of women to strengthening friendship between peoples and struggle for the peace”

Did you know that Women’s Day is an official holiday in so many countries? Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, China, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam observe March 8th as an official holiday! In many countries, its observed as an equivalent for Mother’s Day!

So once again, let me wish all of you, including males ;), a very happy women’s day! Dear women out there, let me just tell you how important you are. You bring life onto this world. You make men crave for more ;) Apart from the differences is sex, and a few physical and mental characteristics, we are all humans! [Indeed, the word “women” is pronounced as “we-men”! I rest my case…]…

    Cheers :)
